OVERVIEW: Our group is interested in understanding and controlling light-matter interactions in low-dimensional materials.

RESEARCH: Our researches focus on ultrafast quantum manipulation of novel physical properties. These include exciton spin-valley in van der Waals heterostructures, helical and chiral nature of Dirac fermions in 3D and 2D topological insulators, topological plasmons, and single photon emitters for quantum information science.

“ULTRAFAST” SPECIALTY: We are specialized in probing ultrafast dynamics from visible to terahertz (THz) ranges. After fabricating nanostructure devices, we measure the nonequilibrium optical and electrical transients down to sub-micrometer (sub-µm) with sub-picosecond (sub-ps) resolution.

[2019. 3. 7] Prof. Choi received Scientist and Engineer Award of This Month (이달의 과학기술인상) from Ministry of Science and ICT (과학기술정통부) & National Science Foundation of Korea (한국연구재단).
[2018. 10. 12] Prof. Choi’s advisor’s advisor (Gerald Mourou) received Nobel Prize for Physics 2018. 
[2018. 6. 12] Nature Nanotechnology by S. Cha and M. Noh on spin-valley opto-physics was accepted. 
[2018. 1. 18] Nano Letters by C. In on topological insulator plasmons was published.
[2018. 3. 22] Nature Communications by S. Sim and D. Lee on exciton quantum beats was published.
